Prinoth Husky Review

Should You Buy a New Prinoth Husky?

When it comes to buying new Prinoth snow groomers from Loch Lomond Equipment Sales, you have four main choices, namely the Prinoth Husky, Prinoth Husky X, Prinoth Bison and Prinoth Bison X.

Prinoth Bison and Husky for alpine and trail grooming.

The Prinoth Husky is marketed as the perfect balance between plowing-power and weight constraints. Lighter snow groomers are generally better. However, weight is also important for a deeper grip and plowing power. The Prinoth Husky’s lightness offers superior weight distribution. The snowcat will exert low ground pressure allowing movement on deep snow without sinking.

The Husky offers the perfect weight-power balance at approximately 11,000 lbs (5,000 kg) and 228 hp. If you want a mid-weight groomer that doesn’t compromise on anything, look no further!

The Husky has also been designed to be agile on tight trails. This snow groomer has a smaller track surface than the Bison and narrower working tools making it capable of going where few other snowcats can. The Prinoth Husky is perfect for trail grooming applications (alpine, nordic, snowmobile, etc.)

The lighting features are adequate enough for safe operation in typical and the most extreme trail grooming applications imaginable.

The powerful and sophisticated lighting system featuring optional LED gives operators unmatched visibility at night. Most importantly, lighting can be adjusted for different conditions. Features like a searchlight allow targeted lighting on specific areas at night. With the front light covering long distances and illuminating uniformly, the new Prinoth Husky can work day and night with ease.

Optional light packages such as the premium LED package guarantee visibility and boost productivity. The package comes with 6 directional spotlights in the front and rear. The normal Halogen light package comes with 4 directional spotlights in the front and rear.

4. Superior Modern Cabin Features

The new Prinoth Husky has all the cabin features you would wish for in a modern snowcat.

The main features include; heated windows, heated mirrors, a tinted sunroof, a tiltable cabin, an 8.4-inch colour display, a universal joystick, iPod & iPad Direct control, Radio, MP3, CD & Bluetooth. Most importantly, the cabin is ROPS certified as per EN-15059, meaning it meets Roll-Over Protective Structure Standards.

The cabin is ergonomic and comfortable. The user-friendly driving systems optimize work processes and reduce operation time. Optimized ergonomics and improved instrumentation reduce operation hours and boost efficiency.

The tinted sunroof stops strong solar radiation and improves air circulation. The cabin also has space for two, optional air conditioning, all-new cabin suspension, and high-quality insulation that controls background noise to maximize comfort. The seating is also comfortable with automatic adjustments and seat temperature controls.

5. Engine Features

How powerful is the Prinoth Husky Engine?

The Husky has a powerful engine with a 170 kW/231 hp output and maximum torque of 950 Nm. The 5.1-litre engine is a direct-injection engine with 4 cylinders and type SCR emission regulation. The engine has enough power to handle all trail grooming applications with ease.

6. Fuel Tank Features

How big is the Prinoth Husky fuel tank?

The Husky has a 150-litre fuel tank — an average-sized car holds between 45 and 65 litres of fuel. However, there are options to have an additional fuel tank. What’s more, the Husky has a 40-litre AdBlue tank. AdBlue (diesel exhaust fluid) is important for reducing air pollution from diesel engines.

7. Superior Blade Features

The new Prinoth Husky has a 12-way blade movement offering unmatched precision and efficiency. The master blade offers maximum pushing performance. This, in turn, saves time and energy. The shape of the blade improves efficiency during snow slope preparations. The blade teeth have also been designed to break up snow and ice with ease.

Other Features

8. Sustainability Features

The Prinoth Husky has been made with Prinoth's CLEAN MOTION philosophy in mind. The snow groomer has been designed to use little energy and protect the environment without compromising on performance. The 231 hp engine is not only powerful but low in emissions. When coupled with efficient hydraulics, the Husky is among the cleanest snowcats on sale today.

9. Usability Features

The snowcat also has all-season usability. You can use the Husky in winter, summer, or throughout the year since it comes with steel, aluminum, or all-season tracks. You can also make numerous attachments ranging from cutters/blowers to mulchers, grasscutters, and more to increase applications.

Hydraulic connections at the back of the Husky’s mounting frame make it possible to attach many drags critical in trail grooming applications.

10. Control and Instrumentation Features

The all-new Husky has an information display with everything there is to know about operations and alerts (on possible malfunctions). For added control, the husky has standard and optional steering features.

The instrumentation has been harmonized to include the entire Prinoth range. Operators don’t need a lot of time to familiarize themselves and operate the new Prinoth Husky vehicle efficiently. With added features like innovative onboard diagnostics (CAN-BUS CONTROL SYSTEM), operating the Prinoth Husky is as easy as waiting for alerts, checking the fault log for details, and resolving faults.

Controlling the Husky is as simple as shifting between steering and lever operation. The centre console and secondary control elements have also been carefully arranged for easy operation. Features like a multi-functional joystick allow operators to handle all main blade and tiller functions using one hand.

11. Superior Track Features

The Prinoth Husky features an innovative tiller function. The tilling mode (characterized by contact pressure, counter pressure, and floating position) can be activated with a raised tiller. Contact & Counter pressure is also continuously adjustable for perfect finishes in every situation.

The Husky's track tiller has other notable features like a flexible combination of tilling widths and four different widths coupled with Prinoth's tilling technology (constant optimization), which results in perfectly groomed snow tracks.

The new track-setting plates are shaped to guarantee smooth gliding over snow regardless of conditions. Independent tillers and track-setting plates allow varied usage based on the trail condition and requirements. This, in turn, allows better fuel economy regardless of grooming speed.

Optimized track shoe shape coupled with finishers on either side ensures efficient compression of snow and trails that are tidy and last longer. Track fins also positioned on either side offer unmatched stability and precision. The new Husky also has superior ice-cutting blades that allow perfect trail preparation. Other unique features include the ability to move the tiller and blade instantaneously.

12. Safety Features

The new Husky has a brush guard that protects operators and passengers from rough bushes. This feature also increases external durability. Other safety features include a reinforced vehicle frame that is resistant to heavy load (i.e., when pushing snow).

13. Optional Features

When you buy the new Prinoth Husky 2021, it comes with numerous options, among them, being; heated wipers, full-LED equipment, rearview camera, snow depth measurement, fleet management, additional 125-litre fuel tank, all-season tracks, floating position blade, and more!

Where Can the Prinoth Husky Be Used: Suitable Applications

A prinoth Husky in action.

The Prinoth Husky has been designed for numerous applications, the most notable being snow grooming applications. The snow groomer can also handle small slopes, toboggan runs, and ski lift tracks. What's more, the Husky can be used for indoor applications. It is truly an all-around machine perfect for preparing snowmobile trails, small sites, ski jumps, indoor ski slopes, cross-country tracks, and toboggan runs.

Prinoth Husky vs Prinoth Husky X

Similarities Between the Prinoth Husky and Prinoth Husky X

Both snow groomers have the same engine output 170 kW/231 hp, displacement (5.1-litre), and torque. The exhaust emission standard (Stage v) and size (length, width & height) are also the same.

Differences Between the Prinoth Husky and Prinoth Husky X

The Husky X is simply an improvement of the Husky in different aspects. According to Prinoth, the Husky X is a more agile working tool that is powerful and capable of working both outdoors and indoors. Most importantly, the Husky X is more fuel-efficient than the Prinoth Husky.

Also, the Husky X stands out for park construction. However, there's more to consider, such as the numerous applications in a ski location.

The Husky X is also better than the Husky in regards to manoeuvrability. The snowcat has better vertical blade movement (up to 19 degrees, (8 degrees up, and 11 degrees down)) when compared to the Husky. This provides better control when making and maintaining jumps, landings, and many other park features.

The Husky X also has adaptive hydraulic pumps as opposed to regular hydraulic pumps in the Husky. This feature allows optimal blade responses and boosts manoeuvrability.

Other differences include an inclinometer on the blade & vehicle for measuring angle tilt and an object's depression vs. gravity to ensure superior trail grooming. The Husky X has also been designed with a high-tech operator cab offering optimal visibility.

Which Snow Groomer is Better? The Prinoth Husky or Prinoth Husky X?

It depends. The Husky is perfectly capable of many snow grooming applications, as discussed above. However, if you want added features more so agility, more versatility (indoors and outdoors), more cabin visibility and other notable high-tech features like an inclinometer, adaptive hydraulic pumps, and more, the Husky X is a better choice.
