Argo XTV Conquest Series Review: Why Consider the Argo XTV Conquest Series?

An Argo Conquest 950 outfitter.

Argo Conquest XTVs is one of five recreational series XTVs by Argo. The others include; Frontier Series, Xplorer Series, Aurora Series, and Magnum Series.

Overview: Who Should Buy the Conquest Series Argo XTV?

The Conquest series has been made for customers who need Argo transport to remote areas i.e., remote ice road construction sites. The Conquest Series Argo XTVs can carry two to six people, making them perfect for cargo and personnel transport applications.

The Conquest Series is part of Argo's recreational XTVs. However, it works perfectly for commercial applications as well. Conquest series XTVs can be used for recreation or commercial applications. Firefighters, welders, engineers, environmentalists, transmission line maintenance crews, mining company workers, forestry consultants, and other professionals will find the Conquest Series very useful.

Main Features of Argo Conquest Series XTVs

There are two main XTVs in the Conquest Series namely; Conquest 800 Outfitter & Conquest 950 Outfitter. Other sub-variations like Conquest 800 & 950 XT, XT-L, etc. are based on accessories. Before discussing the differences between the two( Conquest 800 and 950), it's important to discuss their similarities and why they stand out.

Similarities Between the Argo Conquest 800 Outfitter & Conquest 950

1. Superior Transmission (Admiral Transmission)

Argo Conquest series admiral transmission.

Conquest Series XTVs use what is known as admiral transmission - a complex gearing system featuring dual differentials on output shafts.

When steering, braking force goes to the steering differential as opposed to the output shafts. This system offers smoother, more gentle steering on high gears and a zero-radius turn on low range. The 3:1 output shaft rotation ratio when steering at high gear results in unmatched steering smoothness.

2. Clutch (New Instant Torque Clutch)

ARGO Instant Torque clutch.

The New ITC complements Argo's admiral transmission and increases torque by 28 percent compared to previous clutches. The clutch simply boosts low-end torque while increasing acceleration. The latest Argo's Conquest Series XTVs have been made to have an optimal gear ratio that allows seamless shifting throughout the entire range, which in turn allows maximum use of engine power and torque.

3. Superior Rims & Tires

Adjustable tire pressure of an Argo Conquest model for a smoother ride.

Argo also designed the Conquest Series XTVs with airlock rims & tires. The airlock feature makes the tires attach to rims better in rugged terrain resulting in a smoother ride. You can adjust tire pressure accordingly to match your terrain.

The XTVs also come with low-pressure tires specially designed for offering unmatched traction in the most challenging off-road terrain.

Both XTVs (the 800 and 950 Outfitters) come with 25-inch tires.

4. Superior Winch & Brushguard

Winch and Brushguard Conquest models.

Conquest Series XTVs have better pulling power. The Warn Industries winch mounted on the front of the brushguard (4,500 lbs) can easily handle unmatched high-angle extractions.

5. Heavy-Duty Front Rack

Both XTVs have strong racks capable of heavy-duty carrying applications with ease.

6. Superior Body

The Conquest 800 and 950 Outfitter both have a body featuring premium High-Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE) body plastic with notable benefits ranging from toughness to a low environmental impact. HDPE body plastic repairs are also simple and cost-effective.

The XTVs also have an amphibious body with notable features like floating. The one-piece design for the lower body offers the XTVs unique floating abilities. The underbody has also been designed with unique “amphibious traits” like unmatched smoothness and durability. The XTVs unique body design offers smooth maneuverability over stumps, outcrops, snags, as well as in water/swamps.

7. Capacity

Both XTVs have a similar seating capacity of 2 people on the water, 6 people on land. The load capacity is also similar at 1,170lbs (532 kgs) on land and 470 lbs (213 kgs) on water. The towing capacity is 2,000 lbs (907 kgs) for both XTVs.

8. Fuel Tank

Both XTVs have an 8.5-gallon (32 litres) steel fuel tank.

9. Lighting

The Conquest 800 and 950 Outfitter have dual Hi/Low projector-beam headlights that are brighter with better clarity.

10. Colour options

The XTVs have a TrueTimber Prairie Camouflage that is not only realistic in blending with the outdoors but also long-lasting (resistant to scratches).

11. Other similarities

Argo Conquest Series XTV have other notable similar features;

Weight: Both weigh 875 kgs (1,930 lbs)

Length and Width: The Argo Conquest Series 800 and 950 Outfitter both measure 125-inches by 65-inches by 53-inches in length, width, and height, respectively. The length includes a winch.

XTV clearance: The tire and tracks ground clearance is 10 and 11 inches, respectively.

Warranty: When new, both XTVs have a one-year warranty.

Conquest 800 Outfitter vs Conquest 950 Outfitter

Argo's Conquest Series offers the 800 and 950 Outfitter, which are both outstanding XTVs with similarities and differences. The main differences can be explored in their engines.

1. Differences in Engine

Horsepower: The Conquest 800 Series features a 30-horsepower engine. The V-twin 4-stroke engine is liquid-cooled and dependable. Notable features include the Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI), which will start in all conditions and altitudes. The engine has automatic temperature and air compensation.

The Conquest 950 Series has a slightly more powerful engine, 40-horsepower. 40-hp is the highest horsepower on Argo’s XTV offering. The engine is also 4-stroke with a big block V-twin designed for maximum durability. The fuel system is the same (EFI); however, the engine is fan-cooled.

Alternator: In regards to the alternator output, the Conquest 800 Series has a max output of 60 amps while the Conquest 950 Series has a 50 amps maximum output.

Both engines are powerful enough to venture anywhere outdoors regardless of the weather or terrain conditions.

2. Differences in Speed

The Conquest 950 Outfitter is faster than the Conquest 800 Outfitter at 17-mph (or 27 km/h) vs 12 mph (or 19 km/h). If speed is high on your preference list when choosing between the 950 and 800 Conquest Argo, the Conquest 950 Outfitter stands out.

Summary

Argo's Conquest Series XTVs have been made for a variety of applications. They have superior transmission, clutch, engines, rim & tire design, and body construction. As mentioned above, Argo's Conquest Series XTVs are for anyone who wants to go anywhere (crawl, climb, swim, or skid) on land, hills, or water.

Features like a capacity of 6 people on land and 2 people on the water coupled with a load capacity of 1,170lbs (532 kgs) on land and 470 lbs (213 kgs) on water and towing capacity is 2,000 lbs (907 kgs) make Conquest Series XTVs extremely useful in just about any extreme terrain vehicle application imaginable (from recreational to commercial applications).

When it comes to the choice between the Conquest 950 Outfitter and 800 Outfitter, it "boils down" to power and speed. The 950 Outfitter is faster and more powerful. However, the 800 Outfitter will work perfectly if the speed and power difference don't mean much based on how you intend to use the XTV.
