Prinoth Bison Review

Why Prinoth Bison?

Why should you buy a new Prinoth Bison when you can buy the Husky or other snow groomers in the market?

State of the art technology in the Prinoth Bison Trail Groomers.

First and foremost, Prinoth is a renowned global snowcat brand. What’s more, the new Prinoth Bison is better than the Prinoth Husky in large-scale heavy-duty applications.

The Bison has been designed with more power, better-unrestricted visibility, and more comfort. With a 406 hp engine vs the 228 hp produced by the Prinoth Husky, the Bison engine produces almost twice the power produced by the Husky.

This makes the Bison the better snow groomer for more challenging snow grooming applications with serious power demands. The Bison will conquer the thickest snow and other power challenges to make and maintain terrain parks, slopes, and snowmobile trails perfectly.

What's more, the Prinoth Bison is for those in search of more power coupled with enhanced fuel efficiency and lower snowcat maintenance costs.

How Heavy is the Prinoth Bison?

The snowcat weighs 21,779 lb+ (over 9,878 kgs) with the aluminum tracks, tiller and blade attached.

2. Performance Features: Engine and Speed

How fast is the new Prinoth Bison? How Powerful is the Prinoth Bison’s Engine?

The snowcat has a powerful Caterpillar C9.3, 9.3-litre engine that produces 406 hp and is capable of pushing the snowcat to a maximum speed of 13 mph or 20.9 km/h.

3. Energy Efficiency Features

The new Prinoth Bison has been designed with Prinoth’s futuristic philosophy – CLEAN MOTION in mind. The philosophy is about sustainability and environmental protection. The Prinoth Bison’s engine produces 406 hp/298 kW. Torque stands at 1,726 Nm.

However, the engine is fuel-efficient and designed to reduce fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and emissions despite being immensely powerful. This is made possible largely by the efficient power transmission installed in the Bison and designed to deliver high torque and push performance even at lower engine speeds.

When coupled with an SCR system, exhaust gas recirculation, and a diesel particulate filter, the New Bison releases 90% less toxic gases (Nitrogen Oxide) and particulate matter than its predecessor. There's no cleaner snow groomer in the Bison's level today. This snowcat meets the Stage IV/Tier 4 exhaust emission standard.

4. First Class Operator Cabin Features

The Prinoth Bison's Cabin is arguably the most advanced cab in the newest snow groomers today. Notable features include standardized instrumentation for boosting workflow efficiency. The instrumentation is not only advanced but easy for operators to use.

The new Prinoth Bison also comes with footwell heating. Operators can work in comfortable environments without worrying about cold feet despite extreme outdoor temperatures. The Bison also has a sunroof for improved circulation and indoor light. The window design (sideways opening on both sides) also aids in fresh air circulation.

Other notable cab features include a custom operator seat with numerous comfort features like pneumatic suspension, lateral supports, and multi-position adjustment. Thanks to these features, operators are likely to tire less working long shifts. The cabin is also spacious, has unobstructed views, and features sound insulation.

The Bison also has a central seat that gives the operator unobstructed panoramic views. What’s more, the seat can move sideways to give the operator clearer side overviews necessary in trail grooming applications.

The innovative onboard diagnostics (for quick and easy troubleshooting) and ergonomic control elements allow one-hand control alongside an electric joystick. The new Bison remains unmatched in new snowcat cabin features.

5. Superior Winch Features

The Prinoth Bison features a powerful automatic winch with a 4.5-tonne pulling force. The winch can also be put in eco or manual mode. The cable length is up to 1.2 metres or 3,937 feet. The cable diameter is 11 mm or 0.42-inches, and the breaking load is 150 kN.

6. Superior Tiller Features

The Prinoth Bison has what is known as POSIFLEX Tiller specially designed for superior trail grooming applications regardless of gradient. This feature allows the all-new Prinoth Bison to handle deep and fine-grained tilling applications perfectly. The new rear mounting frame features advanced kinematics.

The Bison also has optimized tiller teeth that result in perfect trails that last even in sloped terrain. The superior tiller features deliver exceptional grooming results (deep & fine-grained tilling results). What's more, the simple but sophisticated construction demands low maintenance.

 7. Blade & Track Features

The Prinoth Bison has a master blade, park blade, and tracks (steel & aluminum). The master blade has been designed for optimal pushing performance and creating perfect slope edges. The blade has angled teeth that break ice and snow effectively enhancing trail grooming applications.

The park blade is high-performance with teeth that offer a perfect finish in forward and backward movement. Features like side cutters allow operators to shape with precision creating sharp edges. However, side cutters are removable with ease. When not in use, they can be fastened on the blade allowing for transportation hooks to be attached. This offers unmatched functionality like transporting park construction tools.

The tracks are designed for climbing grip and agility. The Prinoth Bison comes with steel or aluminum tracks allowing the snow groomer to tackle many ground conditions.

8. Lighting Features

The new Bison has a superior light package. The snowcat is sold with a standard or premium light package.

Front Lights Standard Package Premium Package
Search light & Position lights (with indicators) Halogen Halogen
Directional Spotlights Halogen LED
Directional Spotlights (fitted on mirror holders) LED LED
High & Low Beams Halogen LED
Rear Lights Standard Package Premium Package
Turning Lights Halogen Halogen
Directional Spotlights Halogen LED
Position lights (with indicators) LED LED
Directional Spotlights (fitted on mirror holders) Halogen LED

The lighting package offers unmatched illumination of the surroundings and large distances. Most importantly, the lights have a uniform light distribution offering a perfect overview.

The premium LED package is the best for the greatest nighttime visibility during trail grooming. Most importantly, the premium LED lights are bright but 60% more energy-efficient than standard halogen lights.

The interior hasn't been left out. Lighting features such as an illuminated display adapting to light depending on the working situation make working in any condition easy. The keyboard is also illuminated, offering seamless operation.

9. Other Features

CAN BUS Control Technology connects every control device for reliable diagnostics. Any faults can be identified and resolved quickly.

The Bison also has speed-control features (cruise control) that allow manual or automatic throttle control critical for vast trail grooming applications.

Other notable features include certified ROPS (Roll-over Protection) - DIN EN 15059. If this snowcat rolls over, the cab won’t be excessively deformed and cause serious injury to passengers and operators.

The new Prinoth Bison also comes with a fleet management & snow measurement system. Prinoth's system (SNOW HOW) is a powerful software that offers precise and comprehensive information and analysis to improve snow grooming efficiency and safety.

Since operators can monitor snow depth precisely and ground profile in real-time aided by the Bison's GPS antennae & angle sensors, trail grooming couldn't be more efficient and safer on slopes, ski jumps, parks, name it!

Prinoth Bison customized for snowmobile trail grooming with an MTN Trail Drag attached too.

The fleet management system helps to manage slopes and snowcat fleets by monitoring precise locations, optimizing workflow, route planning, and more to save on costs and boost the bottom line.

Optional features include full LED lights, alarm horn, steel tracks, fleet & snow management, brush guard, carpet, front hydraulics, instructor seat, bio-oil charging ex-work, shaping tool, and rear-view camera (on standard vehicles).

Prinoth Bison vs Prinoth Bison X

Which snowcat is better? The Bison or Bison X?

The Bison X is an improved version of the Bison. Prinoth developed the Bison X to satisfy evolving and creative needs in trail grooming applications. The snowcat is superior in styling and results in absolutely perfect trails.

The Bison X is also for those searching for exceptionality in every aspect from thrust to maneuverability, comfort, and unrestricted visibility. The snowcat is a better pick for that extra snowmobile trail and cross-country trail grooming preparation and maintenance performance.

Notable features include a high-performance park blade with blade teeth that offer a perfect finish in reverse movement.
