Argo 6X6 Frontier Series XTV Review: 650, 700 & 700 Scout

Argo's 6x6 Frontier Series offering is composed of three main offerings, namely the Argo Frontier 6X6 650, Argo Frontier 6X6 700, and Argo Frontier 6X6 700 Scout. These XTVs have notable similarities.

Argo Frontier 6X6 XTV Similarities

Engine: The 650, 700, and 700 Scout Argo Frontier 6x6 XTVs all have the same engine producing 23 HP. The engine is powerful enough to tackle demanding terrain. It has also been designed for quick-staring and other advanced technology while remaining compact and light.

Clutch: All Argo Frontier 6x6 XTVs have the same ITC (Instant Torque Clutch) designed for optimising gear ratio shifting for maximum power and torque.

Transmission: The XTVs also have the same classic transmission designed for incredible manoeuvrability. The ITC (clutch) and Classic transmission pairing boosts torque and acceleration by 28% and 25%, respectively, compared to previous clutches featuring an ST (Standard Torque) transmission.

Steering: The Frontier 6x6 XTVs also have Argo progressive steering (APS), which offers unmatched smoothness and comfort when working hand-in-hand with the classic transmission.

Temperature control features: The XTVs also have reduced under hood temperature to boost interior passenger comfort. The exhaust has been designed to design heat away

Rims and tires: All Frontier 6x6 Argo XTVs have 24-Inch tires and 8-inch steel offset rims with a paddle design offering amphibious propulsion in water and optimised traction on extreme off-road terrain.

Amphibious body design: The XTVs also features a body that is durable, smooth, and capable of floating in swamps and moving freely over stumps and snags.

Other similarities: The XTVs have a similar seating capacity (4-people on land, 2-people on water). The fuel capacity is also the same at 8.5 gallons (32 litres). The speed is also the same (35 km/h or 22 mph on land, 5 km/h or 3 mph in water). The XTVs also have a similar towing capacity (544 kgs or 1,200 lbs), and same body (HDPE body plastic).

Argo Frontier 6X6 XTV Differences

There are several notable differences between the Argo Frontier 650, 700, and 700 Scout. They include;

a. Colour: The Argo Frontier 6x6 650 and 700 come in black, green, and orange colours, while the Argo Frontier 700 Scout has a TrueTimber camo. This makes the Frontier 700 Scout the perfect Frontier 6x6 XTV for hunting applications.

b. Winch & Brushguard: The Frontier 700 Scout also stands out for having a WARN winch for heavy-duty extractions.

c. Load capacity: The Frontier 700 Scout has the least load capacity (232-kg on land, 141-kg on water), followed by the Frontier 700 with slightly more load capacity (258-kg on land, 168-kg on water). If maximum load capacity is important for you, the Frontier 650 offers the most capacity at (270-kg on land, 179-kg on water).

d. Weight: The Frontier 650 6x6 is the lightest at 428 kg. The Frontier 700 and 700 Scout weigh 440 kgs and 467 kgs, respectively.

e. Dimensions: The 650 and 700 Frontier 6x6 measure the same at 96 by 58 by 51 inches, respectively. The Frontier 700 Scout measures the same but is slightly longer at 103 inches.

Summary: Argo Frontier 6x6 650 vs Argo Frontier 6x6 700 vs Argo Frontier 6x6 700 Scout

If you want camouflage, more length, and a winch for heavy-duty extractions in your Argo Frontier 6X6 XTV, consider the Frontier 700 Scout Series. Otherwise, the 650 and 700 will work just fine with very little difference between them. The 650 and 700 differ slightly in engine type (23-HP Carb vs. 23-HP EFI V-Twin Engine). However, while the 700 has the better, more fuel efficient engine, the 650 can deliver XTV performance. The 650 also has a higher load capacity than the 700 and 700 Scout.

Which Argo Frontier is better? Argo Frontier 8x8 650 or Argo Frontier 8X8 700?

The Argo Frontier 8x8 650 and 700 are largely the same aside from a few differences. For instance, the 650 has a carburettor fuel system, while the 700 has an EFI fuel system. If fuel consumption is of utmost concern, the Argo Frontier 8x8 700 will offer better fuel consumption. However, the 650 will carry slightly more load on both water and land.

Is the Argo Frontier 8x8 700 Scout the best Argo Frontier 8X8 Series XTV?

When comparing all Argo Front 8X8 XTVs, the Argo Frontier 8x8 700 Scout stands out for being longer and offering a camo colour option. This makes the 700 Scout better for hunting applications. However, it happens to be the heaviest XTV of the three and has the least load capacity.

Should I choose Argo Frontier 8x8 or Argo Frontier 6x6 XTVs?

The Argo Frontier 8-wheelers offer more seating capacity (can carry 6-people on land, 4-people on water). The Argo 6X6 (6-wheelers) can only carry 4-people on land and 2 on water). If seating capacity is of utmost importance, you should buy any Argo Frontier 8x8 XTV. The Frontier 8x8 is also built for the seasoned outdoor enthusiast, while the 6x6 is more of an entry-level XTV. Generally, it all depends on preferences after considering these notable differences.
